A monumental and impossible staircase snakes diagonally from bottom to top, cutting the scene in two: on the left, the deep blue of the void; on the right, the warm orange of the sunset illuminating each step as if it were gold. On the staircase, six human figures — differing in posture, clothing, and pace — climb each on their own: some with a bag, some with a hat, some with their hands in their pockets.
